~ AIMS
AND GOALS ~
The principle aim
of South Coast Ballet is to foster an appreciation, understanding and public demand for the rich and beautiful art
of classical ballet. We endeavour to perform traditional classics alongside creating new and original works to be enjoyed
by people of all backgrounds and ages. Our goal is to make ballet accessible and affordable, so that everyone can
experience this most beautiful, meaningful and enjoyable of all the art forms - an artform which truly engages with the human
condition.
The
Mission of South Coast Ballet is threefold:
1.
To offer regular stage experience to young Dorset dancers, providing a platform for them to gain and develop essential performing
skills and artistry, and for our own home-grown talent to have the same opportunities as afforded youngsters in more highly
resourced large regional centres or cities.
2. To publicly present full-length and one-act ballets that
are produced and staged to be highly enjoyable and entertaining, and most importantly 'completely
understandable to anyone of any age'
To reproduce traditional established ballets from the classical
repertoire, yet also create entirely new and wholly original ballets so that both dancers and audiences can enjoy originality,
creativity and diversity.
To focus on presenting, in particular, the popular well-known classic ballets which are
not normally toured to the region, so that all people can benefit from the rich ballet repertoire ordinarily abundant in large
regional centres or cities
3. For spectators and participants to have low-cost
access to live ballet theatre - whether a part of the experience of the creative process itself or through the viewing of
new and original productions of ballet theatre
For local audiences to benefit from low-cost ticket prices and access
to live theatre, as well as regular seasons of ballet every year! Frequent visits to live theatre should be accessible and
affordable for everybody, not just the few!!
For local dancers to have equality of opportunity - being able
to afford as well as participate with this unique dance performance experience. Talent is everywhere and elitism should
not get in the way of it coming forth and showing itself!!
We present three Seasons of Ballet per year (December,
April and July) with approximately four consecutive performances each, equating to an amazing 12 live performances in any
one year! Lots of experience for the dancers and lots of chances for ordinary people to get out and be able to access live
theatre and afford it!
Who knows who will go on to a future career in dance or the performing arts? It is
heartening to know that we may play some small part in providing a platform for a future local Dorset trained talent
to blossom and grow!
South Coast Ballets committment is to:
* Foster
understanding and appreciation of classical ballet * Promote the magic of the theatre, through the classic dance,
so that all people of all backgrounds can enjoy the inherent benefits (dancers, audiences
and supporting artistic contributors) * Cultivate a valuable living artistic treasure of creative output *
Encourage, support and develop the talents of local young dancers
For dancers and audiences alike the ballet
is a magical and thrilling experience - no matter what side of the footlights you are on. So whether you
want to watch our productions or dance with us, or engage with some aspect of the creative process, you will certainly not
be short-changed, you are gauranteed to enjoy what this most beautiful of art forms has to offer.
